‘East Indians in Canada’ Part 4: Ruby Dhalla, Nina Grewal were the pioneers among women politicians who made a dent in electoral politics

Women of Indo-Canadian descent did not take long to reach Ottawa’s Parliament Hill.

Among “East Indians”, Sikhs have a distinct physical identity. Some Sikhs who excelled in Canadian politics at the provincial and federal levels were born outside India.

Baltej Singh Dhillon, nominated to the Senate from British Columbia earlier this year, was born in Malaysia. Neena (Narinder) Grewal, who represented the Conservatives in the House of Commons, was born in Osaka (Japan).
