King Charles to make throne speech before House of Commons gets to business

Incidentally, no party enjoys a clear majority in the House of Commons

With 110 new faces, the House of Commons will hold its first session on Monday to elect a speaker before King Charles presents the throne speech. After a gap of 48 years, the Monarch will make a personal appearance in the Senate to make a throne speech. Interestingly, it will be after a gap of nearly six months that the 45th House of Commons holds its preliminary session. In fact, action was set in motion last weekend when Prime Minister Mark Carney took the oath as the first member of the new Parliament.

Incidentally, no party enjoys a clear majority in the House of Commons. After several judicial recounts, the Liberals are still short of the 172-mark for a clear majority. It has a record 24 MPs of Indian descent.
