He was a pioneer. Born in Dhudike village in Punjab, he moved to Canada in 1925. Sixteen years later, he made Mission, a city in Fraser Valley in British Columbia, his permanent home. As a millwright, he set for himself the onerous task of organizing the sawmill workers. Soon, he emerged as a Union leader. He fought for his comrades and set up his sawmills, ensuring workers had proper wages and perks. As his popularity started soaring, he decided to take a political jump.
